BMW has launched the facelifted M5 Competition in India for Rs 1.62 crore (ex-showroom, India). The updated performance sedan mainly gets a power bump and cosmetic upgrades inside and out.
For starters, the M5 Competition facelift retains its 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, which produces 625PS and 750Nm, and is paired to an 8-speed M steptronic automatic transmission. It can achieve 100kmph from standstill in just 3.3 seconds, with the top speed limited to 305kmph.
The retuned chassis, new M-specific suspension, the M8 Gran Coupe’s shock absorbers and the xDrive all-wheel-drive system (4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD), make up for better performance and handling.
In terms of styling, it gets upgrades in line with the recently facelifted 5 Series sedan. Other than the revised front grille, new LED headlamps and redesigned bumpers borrowed from the 5 Series, the M5 Competition gets its exclusive ‘M’ design elements.
These ‘M’ design elements comprise a blacked out treatment for the grille, ORVMs, 20-inch M-Light alloy wheels, and rear lip spoiler. It further gets blacked-out chrome quad M-Sport exhaust tips, a carbon fibre roof, smoked BMW laser lights and smoked LED tail lamps.
The cabin has also been refreshed with a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with live cockpit, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car technology, and new full leather upholstery. The new M5 Competition also features a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, gesture control, parking assistance, adaptive cruise control, head-up display, a Harman Kardon 16-speaker setup, and a wireless display key.
Safety is covered by six airbags, brake assist, dynamic stability control, traction control, electronic differential locking, cornering brake control, and automatic emergency braking.
The BMW M5 Competition facelift continues to rival the Audi RS7.
