The world is shaken with the tragic disaster in Japan, the situation is getting worse instead of getting better. It will take Japan a couple of years to grapple through this tragedy. The tragic incident has stunned the entire world. Major auto companies like Toyota, Honda, Suzuki , Nissan etc are based in Japan who have been affected greatly with the disaster. Contemplating the market position of the Indian subsidiaries of these Japanese companies, it is expected that the Indian auto Industry will also be heavily affected with the current situation in Japan.
The Japanese auto industries have already closed their plants in Japan. The danger in not over yet, two of the European automakers who operate plants in Japan have decided to bring back their foreign nationals. Apparently, the European automakers such as BMW and Volkswagen are amongst the two automakers who are mulling over bringing back their foreign officials back home. BMW employs around 750 people in Japan and the German auto giant Volkswagen employs about 600 workers in Japan. Fifty of the German workers employed in the Japanese facility of BMW have already returned back home, however thirty out of forty employees working in the Volkswagen facility located in Japan have also left the quake hit Japan.
