  • Nearby dealerships will put the models on Amazon for customers to search.

  • Customers will be able to select variant and colour options on Amazon.

  • Delivery can be taken from the dealership or customers can get the car delivered at their homes.

Hyundai motors has recently announced a partnership with the e-commerce giant Amazon. The online retailer will be able to sell vehicles online in the USA from 2024 onwards, and Hyundai cars will be the first one there. As part of this partnership, Hyundai will also be using Amazon Web Services (AWS) for its digital transformation, and new Hyundai cars from 2025 onwards will come with built-in Amazon Alexa. Now, let’s discuss the details of how this online car buying experience is set to work.

How It Will Work

Hyundai-Amazon Partnership

The process of buying a car on Amazon will be a lot similar to booking a car online. Car dealerships near to the buyer’s selected location will be able to put their cars on the Amazon store and customers can then search for the model they prefer. Vehicle search will be based on the preferred model, variant and colour option.

Once the preferred model and variant has been selected, customers will be able to pay for the car using their preferred payment method and financing options. After the payment has been done, customers can either go and pick the car from the dealership or get it delivered to their house.

Previous Amazon-Auto Partnerships

Hyundai-Amazon Partnership

Hyundai’s partnership with Amazon is the first-ever where a car can be bought completely through the e-commerce platform. However, it’s not the first partnership between an online retailer and carmaker, although limited to allowing customers to book their vehicles online through these platforms.

One such example in India is when the Chevrolet Trailblazer was available to book via Amazon, back in 2015. Customers had the option to book the vehicle through Amazon by paying a token amount of Rs 25,000, and then pay the rest of the amount to the dealership for the delivery.

Hyundai models will be available on Amazon in the US only, at least for the time being, and we expect other carmakers to follow suit. However, it’s unclear if and when this partnership could go global. But if this comes to India, would you prefer buying a car through Amazon? Let us know in the comments.
