It scored high in both adult and child occupant protection and also comes with ADAS

Atto 3 Euro NCAP

The BYD Atto 3, which made its debut in India recently, is a global electric offering that has been crash-tested by Euro NCAP. It secured an impressive five-star rating with high scores for both adult and child occupant protection.

Adult Occupant Protection - 34.7/38 Pts (91 per cent)

As per Euro NCAP protocols, the Atto 3 was subjected to three types of impacts: front, lateral and rear. In most tests, the car offered good protection to the heads and legs of the front passengers and adequate protection for the remaining areas. The passenger compartment itself was rated as stable. In the side pole lateral impact test, the driver’s chest protection was rated as weak.

Child Occupant Protection - 44/49 Pts (89 per cent)

The Atto 3 scored perfectly in offering protection for all critical body areas of both six- and ten-year-old child dummies, in both frontal offset and side barrier impact tests. Its only weakness was a technicality with regard to the features list as it does not have ISOFIX anchorage in the rear-middle seat and does not come with integrated child-seat restraint systems.

Safety Assists - 12/16 Pts (74 per cent)

BYD has equipped the Atto 3 with Advanced Driver-Assist Systems (ADAS), most of which will be offered on the India-spec model too. As per the Euro NCAP tests, its autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system performed well as did the lane support system. However, it was docked points for the lack of a driver fatigue detection feature and for its speed-assistance system. Overall, it scored rather well in this area.

Vulnerable Road Users - 37.5/54 Pts (69 per cent)

The VRU part of the test assesses how safe the car is for those who might run into it or fall onto it by accident. The Atto 3’s bonnet provides good to adequate protection to pedestrians and while the front bumper is unlikely to mangle their legs, the protection for the pelvis region was rated as poor. Luckily, its AEB does a good job of detecting pedestrians and cyclists to avoid collisions in most scenarios.

Atto 3 Euro NCAP

This is good news for those considering the BYD Atto 3 in India as it is proven to be a safe vehicle by an agency with relatively strict crash test protocols. Its prices are to be announced in December but bookings are already underway here

The Atto 3 is expected to serve as a more premium and modern alternative to the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV, while also offering more range (521km claimed).
