BYD has revealed the Atto 3 premium electric SUV in India, its second model for the market. The EV’s prices will be revealed by December and deliveries will get underway from January 2023. With a larger battery and extra features, it serves as a more premium alternative to the likes of Hyundai Kona Electric and MG ZS EV.

The Atto 3 has the biggest battery pack here, offering the highest range of 521km. The ARAI-claimed range is around 60-70km more than what the ZS EV and Kona Electric offer. Even when we talk about the performance figures, the Atto 3 is the most powerful and the quickest of the trio. However, the Kona is the torquiest of them all.

The Atto 3 gets fast charging capabilities of up to 80kW, which can juice it up to 80 per cent in 50 minutes. The ZS EV and Kona electric can support up to 50kW fast charging, which does the 0 to 80 per cent charge-up in 60 minutes and 57 minutes, respectively. With a 7.2kW wallbox charger, the Kona electric will juice up the earliest since it has the smallest battery, followed by the ZS EV and the Atto 3.

In terms of comfort and convenience, all the three electric SUVs pack more than enough premium features. The Atto 3 gets a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen system, which is a standout here. The Atto 3 and ZS EV both get ADAS (advanced driver-assistance system), but of varying capabilities.

The ZS EV gets the basic ADAS features such as blind spot detection, lane-change assist, and rear cross traffic alert. The Atto 3’s safety suite features adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, front collision warning, blind spot monitoring, lane departure assist and lane-keep assist. 

The prices for the Atto 3 are yet to be declared, but it is expected to be priced at around Rs 30 lakh. In comparison, the ZS EV ranges from Rs 22.58 lakh to Rs 26.50 lakh, while the Kona Electric costs from Rs 23.84 lakh to Rs 24.04 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom).
