A new variant of Fiat Linea is all ready for the Indian market. The new car is called Fiat Linea Elegante and will be a limited edition that will be sold in India above the current Linea range. Linea Elegante will get a body kit with add-ons to its front and rear bumpers.
The car will also feature side skirts, which go rather well with small decals on the sides. Unlike the face-lifted Linea, the front bumper gets rid of all the chrome bits and the grille gets black inserts in the new Elegante variant. A subtle rear spoiler, along with other cosmetic tweaks gives the Fiat sedan, a clean and sporty look.
Punto Evo’s black roof and alloys are also incorporated in the new Linea.
The interior gets an addition of a touchscreen infotainment system, amongst other alterations. No upgrades are expected for the mechanical components and the car is expected to be powered by the same 1.3-litre diesel engine that produces 91.7bhp @ 4000rpm and 209 Nm of torque @ 2000rpm and the 1.4-litre T-Jet motor that produces: 112.4bhp @ 5000rpm and 207 Nm of torque @ 2200rpm. Linea Elegante is expected to hit the showrooms early next month and the price of the new variant is speculated to be Rs 35-40k above the Emotion variant.
Fiat’s Abarth performance brand will be launched in India on August 4, 2015, with the introduction of Abarth 595. The Italian car manufacturer is also working on getting the Avventura T-Jet and the Punto T-Jet Abarth with 135 hp motor ready for launch before Diwali 2015. The cars are currently being tested on public roads.
This aesthetic revamp is probably being carried out to boost Linea’s low average sales, which stand at less than 150 units per month. These projections are also similar to that of the Fiat Avventura/Punto. Fiat Linea is taking all the help it can get, to develop a competitive edge over its highly successful rivals, which are Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Skoda Rapid and Hyundai Verna.
Fiat India is also getting an investment of $280 million by the parent company Fiat Chrysler, to commence production of a C-Segment SUV under their iconic Jeep brand. The production will be carried out at their plant in Ranjangaon by 2017, which is co-owned by Tata Motors.
