Car makers depend on small cars to revive car sales

In the year of 2008, the Indian car market faced a big crisis and small cars became the savior then. And as it is said, “the history repeats itself”, it’s happening again. Presently, car sales in India witnessed a dip and car manufacturers are in crisis. The only ray of hope remains only in offering consumers small and inexpensive cars. With such a downfall in the car sales in the country, car manufacturers are all set and geared up to launch inexpensive and compact cars that will surely take them out of the mess they are in right now.

Hyundai Motors and General Motors are the leaders in manufacturing small and compact cars. Hyundai’s new small car is on its testing stage and its codename is speculated to be H800. The official launch of H800 is expected in 2012. However, Hyundai gave an official green signal about the new car they are currently working on but did not provided info on its exact launch date. On the other hand, the General Motors is also set and ready to enter the small car segment by the end of 2011. However, the toughest competitor to GM will be new Maruti Swift. Earlier too, GM cars faced a tough fight against Maruti’s Alto, which was the best seller by Maruti Suzuki.

According to the VP of General Motors India, Mr. P. Balendran, the firm is equipped to bring in their small car that will fulfill the requirements of entry-level consumers. Currently, General Motors have few small cars, which include Chevrolet Beat, Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Aveo U-VA. The sky-touching fuel rates are making consumers get more inclined towards smaller and cheaper cars. Maruti Alto showed what a small car could do. Even Tata Nano has been well-liked by the customers. Currently, the most dominating and popular small cars in the Indian market includes, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai i10, Ford Figo and soon to be introduced Honda Brio.
