Car sales up but commercial in May

In the current financial year's May month, the sale of domestic passenger-car sales saw positive growth while commercial vehicles sales decreased. As per the figures provided by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) today, domestic passenger-car sales increased by 2.48% to 1,13,490 units in May from 1,10,745 units in the same month last year.
However, commercial vehicle sales last month decreased to 30,800 units from 36,141 units in the year-ago period, a fall of 14.78%, SIAM said. Moreover, motorcycle sales surprised with its growth in the month. The sales of motorcycle in India during the month was up 12.34% at 5,76,541 units from 5,13,209 units in the corresponding month a year ago. The total two-wheeler sales in May surged by 12.45% to 7,27,937 units compared to 6,47,358 units in the same period last year.
