Cars for MRF Formula Championship 2011 allotted to drivers

In the view of the upcoming MRF Formula Championship 2011, the participants were assigned their cars for the upcoming race. 15 drivers registered for the mega event were each was allotted a car via lots drawn by Gautam Gambhir, Indian cricketer who is also the MRF brand ambassador, at an event in Chennai on 27th January.

Among the 15 participants 10 are from India, three are from Great Britain and two belong to Finland. 29th January is the last date for registering and the event will start with first six races which will take place at Madras Motor Race Track on more than two weekends (on February 5th and 6th and 12th and 13th). It will then be followed by two other races at Jaypee International Circuit in Greater Noida at the country's first Formula One race which is scheduled on 30th October.

Arun Mammen, Managing Director, MRF said that the MRF Formula Championship 2011 is part of Chennai races while the ‘Delhi Championship with MRF' is scheduled for the Greater Nodia. This will provide support officially for the upcoming Formula One race.

Vicky Chandhok, President- Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India said that the Chennai races will provide the team the right assessment of the infrastructure along with the driver's performance. The participants will also be given an option to apply for international competition license. This is compulsory for participating in Delhi Championship.

He also added that to ensure more people opt for racing as a career option, the age limit has been brought down to 14 years. He also said they are using an impartial process through which the automobiles will be equal in all aspects for instance the service crews will be rotated in each and every weekend to ensure equality.
