The Earth Edition has desert-inspired looks and gets a fresh beige paint on the outside while there are beige touches inside the cabin as well
The Mahindra Thar recently got a special edition called the ‘Earth Edition’, based on the top-spec LX trim, that commands a uniform premium of Rs 40,000 over the regular variants. The Thar Earth Edition has now reached dealerships, and here’s how it looks and what it offers:
Front
The only change on the fascia of the SUV is the new beige finish for the chrome slats in the grille. Apart from that, it still has the same round halogen headlights and chunky bumper.
Side
It’s from the sides that you notice more unique touches to the special edition in the form of the ‘Earth Edition’ badges on the B-pillar, beige inserts in the alloy wheels, and the dune-inspired decals on the doors.
Rear
There’s no change made to the rear profile of the Mahindra Thar, and it still features the same tailgate-mounted spare wheel and rectangular taillights with the ‘Thar’ moniker.

Cabin
The most obvious change on the inside is the dual-tone leatherette seat upholstery with contrast beige stitching. It also has the dune-like embossing on the headrests. You can also notice the beige finish for the ‘Thar’ moniker located on the door panels. The Thar Earth Edition also gets beige highlights for the AC vent surrounds, in the centre console, and on the steering wheel.
Mahindra has provided the Thar Earth Edition with a 7-inch touchscreen, cruise control, keyless entry, and a height-adjustable driver seat. Its safety kit includes dual front airbags, electronic stability programme (ESP), and rear parking sensors.
Two Engine Options
The Thar special edition is available with both petrol and diesel engine options:
-
A 2-litre turbo-petrol engine (152 PS/300 Nm) with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT
-
A 2.2-litre diesel engine (132 PS/300 Nm) with 6-speed MT and 6-speed AT
Mahindra is offering the Thar Earth Edition only with a 4-wheel-drive (4WD) version. The regular variants of the SUV also get a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) version, which are provided with a smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine and the same 2-litre turbo-petrol engine.
Prices And Competitors
The Mahindra Thar is priced between Rs 11.25 lakh and Rs 17.60 lakh (ex-showroom pan-India). It takes on the Force Gurkha and Maruti Jimny.
