Chevrolet Beat Diesel basks in glory

General Motors India introduced one of its best selling hatchback Beat in India last year in petrol guise only, the car managed to cajole the Indian customers and helped ramping up GM India's sales. Due to the rising demand for diesel cars in India the company rolled out the diesel avatar of its popular hatchback in the month of July. As expected the diesel variant succeded in fuelling sales of the American auto giant ever since its launch. Things have begun to look bright ever since and the Chevrolet Beat sales grew tremendously by 150%. The small car sales reached 5000 units a month recording an all-time high of 5, 315 bookings in the month of October.

It is basically the perfect timing for the launch of the cars that has acquired an undying demand for the diesel variant due to the recurring petrol price hikes, which has diverted the major chunk of consumers attention towards the diesel cars. Moreover, the contemporary styling with best of the class features have placed the car in a different echelon. The compact model and the tallboy design offers easy maneuvarabilty on the roads and comfortable access. The 1.2 L S-TEC II LPG engine and the 1.0L common rail turbo diesel engine are highly fuel efficient and key selling points for the car. The 36 month free maintenance is another attraction from the auto major to lure the customers.

The Chevrolet Beat has some drawbacks though, like the petrol motor seems to be slightly worn off at high speeds and the diesel motors proves to be more efficient while idle driving rather than on faster pace. Chevrolet Beat petrol houses a 1.2 L 3-cylinder petrol engine that churns out a peak power of 80 Bhp, the same engine is offered in the LPG version as well. The diesel variant however comes affixed with a 936 cc common rail turbo diesel engine which is generates a top power of 56 Bhp and a peak torque of 150 Nm. The car is one of the best in terms of frugality with 24 kmpl in the B segment cars standing next to the super-efficient Tata Indica V2 with a phenomenal mileage of 26 kmpl.
