A heavily camouflaged version of the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Chevrolet Spin has been spotted on Indian roads. The model has earlier been showcased at the Auto Expo 2016.
The Enjoy, another MPV by Chevrolet, has become quite popular in the taxi sector in India. With the Spin, the carmaker is planning to fight the likes of the Ertiga and the Mobilio, which are popular for the comfort they offer. Toyota and Honda are ready with the Innova Crysta and the BR-V to further strengthen the competition in this segment. The seven-seater Spin is based on the same GM Gamma II platform used by the Chevrolet Beat and will have to compete with the cars mentioned above.
It measures 4,360mm in length, 1,735mm in width and 1,683mm in height and, with these dimensions, it will have an edge over the Ertiga, which is slightly smaller. The international version of the Spin is offered with three engine options: 1.2-litre petrol, 1.5-litre petrol and 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel. As far as the Indian version is concerned, Chevrolet might borrow the 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel mills from the Enjoy. Respective power figures for the former and latter are 99bhp/131Nm and 74bhp/173Nm. They are likely to change with the tuning offered.
Chevrolet launched the Trailblazer in 2015 and recently introduced the facelift for the Cruze. The Spin will be launched in 2017 and with this, Chevrolet will be able to renew the major part of its line-up.
