Citroen has announced that its upcoming subcompact SUV will be launched in 2022. It was earlier supposed to hit showroom floors by Diwali 2021. A similar situation happened with the C5 Aircross, where it was going to be launched in 2020, but was delayed to April 2021. The Kia Sonet rival is likely to be named ‘C3’.
Recently, leaked scale model images of the subcompact SUV gave us a preview of what to expect from the Citroen SUV. Going by the images, it looks inspired by the bigger C5 Aircross, with a large grille, split headlamp setup, C5-like door padding, an almost flat dual-tone roof, and heavy body cladding all over.
It could be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, paired to manual and automatic transmissions. As said earlier, there won’t be any diesel engines on offer. The car will be manufactured at Citroen’s plant in Tamil Naidu and has been on test in the country for a while now.

It will enter the highly competitive subcompact SUV segment, which already has nine contenders so far. To stand out from the crowd, Citroen might keep it as a feature-packed offering. The new Citroen SUV will take on the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite.
