Luxury SUVs have often been revered as the ultimate vehicle of choice by a sizable subset of automotive enthusiasts. The appeal of these cars is supported by the availability of every fathomable creature comfort, paired with abundance of power that is accessible at one’s discretion. The new Range Rover Evoque guns for its territory with the assistance of its to-die-for looks that include redesigned bumper, larger air-intakes, newly styled grille and LED adaptive head-lamps, in addition to 188bhp of power and 4X4 drive configuration. The car also comes with an all-aluminum Ingenium TD4 turbodiesel engine, which is 20-30kg lighter than its predecessor, making it a viable candidate against its competition. So let's see how Britain’s finest fairs against its luxury SUV competitors.
Highlights
The interiors of the new Range Rover Evoque feature new door casings, seats and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, but one of the most prominent drawback of the Evoque is its rather unimpressive fuel-economy, which stands 8.7 kmpl as compared to 11.7 kmpl of Volvo XC60 and 14.5 kmpl of BMW X3. Evoque’s fuel tank capacity, which stands at 57 liters also doesn't help make its case strong in comparison to that of its rivals, as XC60 offers a fuel tank capacity of 70 liters, which is highest of the three, followed by BMW X3, which stands at a modest 67 liters. The Range Rover though makes-up for it with an impressive 575-litres of cargo volume. The Beemer comes in a close second with 550-liters, followed by Volvo XC60 with 495-liters. All three cars flaunt 17 inch alloys.
Range Rover has refrained from keeping the prices competitive and at INR 47.1 lacs (Ex-showroom New Delhi), Evoque is most expensive car of the lot, as the BMW comes with a price tag of INR 46.9 lacs while Volvo XC60 costs INR 45.5 lacs. Range Rover’s salvation beckons yet again and this time in the form of its 4X4 configuration, which is not available in the XC60. But it must be noted that the relatively cheaper BMW X3 also comes with a 4X4 drive type and an attractive unlimited kms warranty distance, which trumps that of Evoque’s that stands at 1,00,000 Kms and Volvo’s at 60,000 Kms. This is definitely an attractive proposition considering the segmentation of these cars. The sheer appeal of the Range Rover Evoque has helped its pre-orders gain traction since its bookings opened last month.
