After launching the low-cost redi-GO earlier this month Datsun is now shifting its focus to its highly applauded vehicle at the Indian Auto Expo, the GO Cross. As per a report, the Nissan subsidiary is looking to prepone the launch of the GO Cross to 2017 based on the tremendous response it received at the Expo.
The gorgeous GO Cross is based on the same platform as seen in the GO+ MPV, however, the design has been completely revamped, unlike the existing cross versions of its rivals like the Toyota Etios Cross, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Hyundai i20 Active, which all strikingly hint towards their hatch roots.
It’s not a secret that the top end Kwid is the most successful variant from its partner, Renault and Datsun knows it. The majority of the Kwids plying on Indian roads have a touchscreen which gives Japanese automaker all the reasons to include a similar ‘connected car’ concept in its upcoming GO Cross. We can also expect the same to make way in its soon to be facelifted cars, the GO and the GO+.
To keep prices in check Datsun is looking forward to lower costs incurred on the GO platform. It is to be noted that the existing platform is already very cost effective but Datsun is looking to further bring down the costs. For the same, it plans to ‘industrialise’ some of the components available in India which come from Tier II and Tier III cities.
The Datsun GO Cross’ price is expected to start from Rs 4.4 - 4.6 lakh. However, it won’t be easy to offer the scuff plates, cladding, roof rails and LED lights showcased in the concept car at this price. Let’s see how the carmaker fits all of them yet keep prices competitive.
