With its launch nearing, the Datsun redi-GO has started to arrive at dealerships. Sharing its platform with the Renault Kwid, this entry-level hatch’s bookings are already open at an upfront payment of Rs 5,000. The redi-GO’s price is expected to be in the vicinity of the Kwid i.e. Rs 2.62 - 3.67 lakh (ex-showroom).
The stylish hatch offers plenty of space compared to its rivals -- the Maruti Alto 800, the Hyundai Eon and the Tata Nano. In terms of features, the redi-GO offers power steering, LED daytime running lights, front power windows and a music system with CD/USB/AUX.
Powered by an 800cc engine, the Datsun redi-GO churns out 54.8PS of max power at 5678rpm and 72Nm of peak torque at 4388rpm. Although, the Renault hatch and the redi-GO share the same engine, the latter delivers a better fuel efficiency, as it’s lighter than the Kwid. Its claimed mileage is 25.17kmpl. An automatic variant might be launched at a later stage, provided the demand surges.
Designed for city driving, the redi-GO’s compact dimensions and light steering makes maneuvering in traffic quite easy. Also, with the segment-best ground clearance of 185mm, it is a perfect ride for the Indian roads. To attract the younger population, Datsun is offering the redi-GO with vibrant colours such as Lime Green, Red, Grey, White, and Silver.
With the redi-GO’s launch, the competition in the entry level segment is further going to intensify. However, it would be interesting to see how it fares alongside the Kwid, the Nano, the Alto 800 and the Eon. Keep watching this space for a comprehensive coverage of the Datsun redi-GO’s launch.
