While Maruti Swift and Swift Dzire are first choice for many, the prolonged waiting period cause the consumers to have second thoughts. Is the high wait period due to car industry slowdown? It doesn’t make much sense, does it? How can a slowdown delay the delivery of the car when there is no demand in the first place. So there are other factors that are adversely working to increase the waiting period. Each case might be different, unfortunately there are many factors working against Maruti Suzuki India’s favour.

Maruti swift is the flagship model for Maruti India since its launch in 2005. And the new Maruti Swift is all the more reason to see sky-rocketing sales. The popularity of the car has reached next level garnering over a lakh bookings in the first month of its launch in August. Then why is the car manufacturer making no bones of it? The high waiting period is throwing it into the gallows giving it no space to recover back. The current waiting period of Maruti Swift stands at around 6-9 months. Consumers despite their initial temptation are straying towards other models which are easily available at hand like Toyota Etios Liva or Chevrolet Beat for example. Then why doesn’t Maruti India show some agility instead of sitting back and relax. Unfortunately, its hands are tied and moreover as one say, the timing is bad. The car industry slow down began in June and then started the pitiful state of recurrent strikes at its factory premises.

The strikes began to hit the production at the factories left and right. The workers at the Manesar plant have called the strike three times whatever may be the cause stretching up to fortnight long at two instances. The actual trouble began when the second strike hit the company in August. The production of all the Maruti cars, including Maruti Swift were called off. Neverhteless as they say, All’s well that ends well; finally things began to look bright and the Swift production has reached the normal level of what was thought is never going to happen ever again. Now, the auto major is unable to shakedown the accumulated bookings so easily. Despite having the full swing of production from Manesar Plant A and nearly there production at Plant B, things are still beyond control for Maruti India. However, MSI is now getting its act together to cut down the waiting period soon.

Honda Motors has a different story to tell. Thailand unit of Honda Motors that supplies the underbody parts and electronic components is hit by the major floods in the area making it impossible for other units to roll out cars. The bad news has come when Honda India was on the brink of sprucing up its existing line-up. Pitifully, every launch has fallen behind the schedule right from 2012 Honda City - slated for a launch in November to 2012 Honda CR-V and new Honda Civic which are luckily scheduled for a 2012 launch. Reasons might vary, but the base line remains the same –deliveries beyond schedule.
