The high court bench made it clear that if it implements such measures actively, like imposition of a ‘congestion fee’, the capital of India will not be exempted from it. The full bench of High Court has created a task force including a traffic expert, a DCP nominee of the Police commissioner, two nominees from the private sector or drawn from autonomous institutions, a pollution control expert, a town planning expert nominated by DDA and one environment and urban development expert. The principal secretary of Delhi transport department will be the member secretary of the task force.
As automobile Industry registered record braking sales (crossed 11 lakh units) in the month of January this year, worries of Delhi High court are genuine. All major domestic car manufacturers like Maruti, Hyundai, Tata and Mahindra are focusing on grabbing a good market share and for it these companies are aggressively launching their new cars in India like Maruti Eeco, Tata Aria and Hyundai i10 electric. On the other side world's top car manufacturers like Volkswagen, General Motors, Toyota and Ford are ready to launch their new cars in India including Volkswagen Polo, Ford Figo, Toyota Etios and Toyota Prius.
By concluding its suggestion HC cited several reports on road management and said that there is a urgent need to increase and augment public transport, be it increase in number of buses, more Delhi Metro lines or any other mode.
