Last month, Nissan had announced the revivification of its low-cost car brand Datsun, and since then it has become an inevitable part of any discussion related to the Indian auto world. The Datsun brand is being revived for the emerging markets of Russia, India and Indonesia so that the company can build and sell in-expensive cars in these markets. The Chief Creative Officer of Datsun project, Shiro Nakamura suggested that the Datsun brand is not being resurrected to bring Bluebird and Datsun 240Z back.  Datsun’s revival is aimed at repeating the history Datsun created 70 years ago, in 1930 in the growing market of Japan as Nissan believes that the emerging countries esp. India, Russia and Indonesia are showing similar type of market growth. The official launch of the first car under Datsun brand will be in 2014.

Durable, attractive & trustworthy Datsun cars resurging

The company would be relaunching two of its models, first one will be on the lines of Datsun cars of 1930s and second one will follow the cars of mid 1950s. Both the models would live up to the DAT philosophy of building Durable, Attractive and Trustworthy cars. The brand would enhance its product portfolio after it is successfully established in these markets. More authentic details about the cars and the product range would be released by next year or so but we can continue with the guessing process. Word is, Datsun would not be at par with Nissan in terms of engineering standard owing to limitation of low prices but Datsun cars would offer decent safety, quality, and handling features and would also be way better than the current expensive cars stocking the showrooms of the emerging markets.
