Euro NCAP now tests electric cars

Euro NCAP, the agency responsible for testing the vehicle safety is soon to come up with the result of first assessment done for testing the safety quotient of the electric cars, Mitsubishi i-MiEV. The company has made it clear that the zero emission vehicles with four star rating also needs to follow strict safety norms. Mitsubishi i-MiEV, Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot iOn shares the same rating. all the models bear similar designing and safety features. Addressing the issue, Dr Michiel van Ratingen who is the Euro NCAP’s Secretary General commented that the company considers the efforts taken by Mitsubishi to come up with the high technology plug-in battery powered cars with the same level safety features as seen in other cars.

He also said that with this great effort taken by the company, the EV segment will grow as a whole with signs a bright future. He stated that the EV should meet the safety norms irrespective of the new or experienced manufacturer. Euro NCAP is an agency which specializes in testing the plug-in vehicles which carry live batteries. The EV’s are thrown to same condition as the other cars are tested in and then the outcome is measured accordingly.

The cars are tested rigorously under the post-crash battery integrity along with the engine capacity to perform smoothly. The recently disclosed off-road 4x4 Dacia Duster with Renault as the mother company was also not able to convince the Euro NCAP. The car was not able to meet the safety norms decided by this agency. Among the models which grabbed a 5 star include Mitsubishi ASX, Nissan Juke and Hyundai ix20. Dr Michiel van Ratingen has also declared that Lane departure which is an important variable in a large proportion of accidents, will be now be checked by Infinity’s LDP system which will assist the driver for smooth and safe drive.
