In India cricketers are a special breed. Whether victorious or not the country’s cricket fans treat them no less than royalty. The nation is obsessive about even the smallest bit of personal information that about their cricketing idols – both on field and off field.
With the extravaganza called the Cricket World Cup just around the corner it only makes sense to talk about some personal preferences of some of our past and current cricket stars.
Apart from link ups and endorsements there is one more thing our cricketers, or other sportsmen world over, are famous for. It’s their love for cars, especially the fast and expensive ones!
We have all heard of the Indian skipper Dhoni’s love for automobiles. His ride around his hometown on his Harley Davidson was captured by the media extensively and so was his purchase of the Hummer. Dhoni has a taste for some very expensive and classy vehicles and he currently owns a Yamaha 650 sportsbike, a Kawasaki Ninja and a Mitsubishi Pajero.
There is one more cricketer in the Indian squad who owns the Hummer and is usually in the media’s glare due to one controversy or the other. The king of spin – Harbajan Singh is in love with his car and you can find pictures of it on his blog!
As with everything else, he walked into or rather drove into a controversy with his Hummer by driving it around Chandigarh without a registration number. He also has a Ford endeavour and number of bikes won in tournaments.
When talking about cars one cannot fail but mention Yuvraj Singh’s Porsche 911 that he got for hitting six sixes in one tournament at the T 20 world cup that India won. He likes to carry his playboy image to his garage and has amassed a harem of some shining beauties like – Porsche, Jaguar, Mercedes Benz, BMW 3 series, BMW M-5, BMW M-3, Honda Civic, Honda CRV et al.
If Yuvraj has his Porsche to boast about Delhi’s daredevil Gautam Gambhir can prodly flaunt his experience behind the wheel of the 1600cc Formula Ford car. The budding cricketer from Delhi owns a Toyota Corolla, Maruti SX4 and a Santro.
This love for fast cars is not just restricted to the young players in the squad. Some of the senior players share the passion for fast cars as fervently as the young ones.
Rahul Dravid, famously called the wall, owns a BMW 3 series, Mercedes Benz, Audi A4, Audi A6 and loads of other rev happy beauties. Similarly the beloved Saurav Ganguly or dada has some 20 Mercedes Benz, 4 BMWs and plenty of other cars.
And the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar rides around proudly in his Ferrari 360 Modena that was gifted to him by FIAT and of course his other ladies – the SL55 AMG, C230, Land cruiser, Opel et al.
Some of the yester year players like Navjot Sing Siddhu and Azharuddin are also car fanatics. While Siddhu owns a Land Cruiser and a Pajero, Azharuddin has a long queue of Mercedes including the S class in his garage.
