Despite the good brand value and best-selling models, Fiat India is reported to hit the all-time low with sales of mere 622 units in the month of October. Though the auto major has offered considerable discounts on Fiat Linea sedan and Fiat Grande Punto hatchback during the festival season, the company sales have remained low at 622 units. This a major dip in sales recording 22% from September sales and huge drop of sales at 70% from 2010 October.

It is quite surprising to see the lowest sales especially on Fiat Linea and Fiat Punto as they are popular for their high fuel efficiency, easy handling and spacious interiors.  However, the only drawbacks could be the rather shabby interiors in comparison with its competitors which might reason for the low sales figures. On the other front, the combined dealership between the Tata Motors and Fiat is supposed to have worked against Fiat’s sales. It is said that the salesmen at the Tata-Fiat dealerships have concentrated more on selling their own cars against the Fiat cars. Apparently, this has triggered Fiat to have its own dealerships in future. The Italian manufacturer is synonymous for its diesel technology, which Fiat supplies it to other car manufacturers including Maruti Suzuki India.

According to the latest reports a deal is being finalised to have Fiat’s diesel engine to be used in the Maruti Swift. Fiat is known to supply its best of the class 1.3 L Multijet diesel engine for other cars. Meanwhile, Fiat is looking for alternative methods to improve its revenue. Fiat Linea, which is offered in India in 10 variants with three engine options is hoped to be exported to other car markets supporting right hand drive. While the company has decided to export the Fiat Linea units to Sri Lanka; Bhutan and Australia are the other options. The Fiat Linea sedan is being sold in the range of Rs 6.5 lakhs-Rs 9.06 lakhs in India.

Its a real pity that such classy products have been waylaid by Indian customers to select unworthy and flimsy models of other companies.
