Ford and Nissan beat Maruti and Hyundai in small car exports

The small car exports are enjoying the gaining popularity with 13.5 % growth during the fiscal year 2011-2012 despite the global slowdown in the auto market for the past few months, when compared to the same period of time during the last year, especially with higher exports recorded by Nissan and Ford. In the micro, mini and the small car segments , there had been 113,372 units of export taking place against the 99,851 units exported last year during the same quarter April- June.

It has been observed that the largest auto makers in India, Maruti and Hyundai had fallen behind in the race with Nissan and Ford, with Hyundai’s export dipping by 6% at, only 53, 125 units against last year’s 56,559 and Maruti’s export fell by an astonishing 24% at 30, 254 units against 39, 804 units during the same quarter in 2010.

As per the export figures above, we can see for ourselves, that while Maruti and Hyundai failed to match with last year’s Q1 exports, Nissan and Ford have managed to cross their last year’s targets. Maruti India, the country’s biggest auto makers which continue to hold the number one position with Maruti Swift and Hyundai on the second position with its Hyundai i10 sales, Ford occupying only the third position with Ford Figo, Maruti India and Hyundai are unable to boost the export scenario in the European market after the ‘Scrappage Incentive Scheme’, a scheme which encourages the UK citizens to buy a new car after scrapping the old one used for over a year, by providing them with an incentive.

Mr Arvind Saxena, Director of Sales and Marketing, Hyundai Motors India said that they are currently focusing on the growth in the domestic market which has improved by 12.2% against the last year’s sales in the same quarter.While Maruti India and Hyundai India dominate the domestic market in small car sales, Ford India and Nissan rule the exported cars segment in the international market.
