After carving a niche for itself in the hatchback segment, the company is now eyeing the sedan segment which currently has some major players grabbing the attention of the car aficionados. The sedan segment has seen a drastic change over few months. The saloon segment was ruled by the Japanese auto major Honda's smoking hot sedan Honda City, though the car has not received any facelift yet but people still swear by it. The scenario changed since last year when Toyota India launched its smartly priced sedan Toyota Etios in the market which created a hysteria ever since its launch. Apart from Etios sedan major players like Volkswagen Vento also came into limelight, the saloon gave cut throat competition to Honda City. As a result of this Honda's sales slumped, Honda India recently slashed the price of Honda City and is also thinking to roll out a diesel variant of the car. Auto industry off late was also abuzz with the news of Honda City getting a facelift too apart from the possibility of a diesel variant.

Topping the charts is Hyundai's rejuvenated Fluidic Verna which is leading in the saloon segment. Hyundai Verna Fluidic has given a tough fight to Maruti Swift Dzire Dzire as a result of which the Dzire's sales in June slumped. Ford with the retouched version of its sedan Ford Fiesta is aiming high in the saloon segment. Embedded with new features the car is expected to be launched in both petrol and diesel variants. The probable reason behind the Figo's success could be the diesel variant which gave it an edge over the other small cars in India. Contemplating the demand in the market, Ford will be rolling out Fiesta in diesel variant also. Hyundai Verna Fluidic, Volkswagen Vento and the recently launched Maruti SX4 diesel are already cashing in on the soaring petrol prices. Ford India now envisages to repeat the Figo success with the all new Ford Fiesta. Lets see whether Ford will be able to woo the Indian customers with its new offering or not.
