Ford Figo to be exported to 18 more countries

The successful hatchback by Ford India, Ford Figo, is set to strike the roads in 18 more countries owing to the upsurge in demand of the trendsetter Ford Figo. The decision was reportedly announced by Ford India President and Managing Director Michael Boneham at a conference stating that currently Ford Figo is exported to 32 countries which will be shot up to 50 markets by the year end. Some of the likely future markets of Ford Figo mentioned by Boneham are South America, North Africa and Caribbean Islands.

Currently Ford India owns a plant in Chennai, responsible for production of hatchback Ford Figo, medium and premium versions of sedan Ford Fiesta and SUV Ford Endeavour. As per the reports Ford India is now planning to set up a second production plant in Gujrat which will be functional by 2014. However, some concerns were expressed by Boneham over the much debated proposal to levy taxes on diesel vehicles. SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) is said to believe that it is not an appropriate approach, an opinion apparently reverberated by Boneham.

The reason to this as reportedly quoted by him is that automobile industry, which engages a large workforce in India, is already struggling and a proposal like this will only make the suffering worse. oing by the facts stated by Boneham, Ford India saw a growth of 15% last year. Fighting the friction induced by high interest rates and fuel prices, Ford India is speculating a growth of 10% year-on-year.
