Ford Figo to replace Fusion in India

Ford India has decided to phase out its small hatch back Ford Fusion in the country as the company is all set to launch a new small car named as Ford Figo here by the first week of March, this year. Company will phase-out the Ford Fusion model and it will focus exclusively on its new small car Ford Figo in the Indian market, said, Michael Boneham, Ford India Managing Director and President. The Ford Fusion model was providing a relatively small volume and company hopes to do good with the new Ford Figo, added Mr Boneham.

Ford Figo has become quite popular in India even before its launch here, though its competitor Chevrolet Beat which was launched last month, registering a good number of sales. Launch of Ford Figo model is scheduled for starting of next month and the production of the model has been started at Ford's Chennai plant.

Ford is planning to make India its base for production and export of Ford Figo model. First the model will be manufactured for Indian market and after analysing response of Indian buyers the company will possibly export CBUs (Completely Built Units) of Ford Figo form India to foreign markets like South Africa, Asia and Middle East.

Ford India has hired more than 700 employees at the enhanced assembly and engine plant in last one year, company will recruit more employees as soon as the plant reaches its full capacity. Company planned to invest heavily ($500-million) to revitalize and enhance its operations in India and till now more then 90% of this investment has been completed, as told by Mr Raj Nair, Ford vice-president, operations (Asia Pacific and Africa).
