Ford Figo wins 2011 Indian Car of the Year Award

Ford Figo, the exceptional hatchback was chosen as the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) 2011 on 15th December 2010. In India, ICOTY is the top automobile award and Ford Figo has been selected from the array of cars available in the fastest growing Indian auto market, for this prestigious award. The award in its sixth year is given to a new car after an extensive testing by selected jury members which include renowned automobile journalists in India. Michael Boneham, President and Managing Director of Ford India was presented with the award from Dr R P Singhania, Vice-chairman and managing Director of JK Tyre & Industries at a grand function in Mumbai.
Mr Boneham stated that, this award ends a great year for the great Ford Figo. The award is definitely an honour from the best in the automobile industry. Recieving the award from The jury members that include the most reputed automobile reporters stamps the efforts put into building Ford Figo which is well known for its elegant design, fuel economy and pleasurable driving experience, all at a competitive priced. He further added that the company is thankful to the jury members and also to the buyers who have made Ford Figo a success.
The hatchback was selected by 11 jury members through a multi point voting system which is similar to the European Car of the Year selection criteria. One of the jury members stated that the panel agreed that the US auto company has a winner in Ford Figo when compared to its competitors. The hatchback has efficient driving experience, two fuel economy powertrian option, savvy style and spacious interiors and the pricing which played a very important role. The award best suit the makers as the auto makers have aptly catered to the Indian conditions and Indian buyers. Since the launch of the hatchback Ford Figo, almost 60,000 cars have already rolled out in India which is a record in its own.
Ford in India, sold 79,586 cars from January to November, 2010 registering a hike of 185 per cent over same time in 2009. Ford Figo has also made a mark in South African auto market and was among the finalist in the South African Car of the Year award, the winner for which is yet to be declared. The hatchback is also exported in the neighboring country Nepal and by 2011 it will be shipped in 48 global auto markets. The company also sells New Ford Ikon, Ford Fiesta and Ford Endeavour in the Indian auto market.
