Ford Figo’s 4,000 order backlog to be cleared in a month

Following the increased output at its Chennai facility, the Carmaker Ford India, who had also launched Ford Figo in March has announced that it is expecting to clear a backlog of around 4,000 units of the car. Since the time of the launch of this car in March 2010, the company had recieved total bookings of 25,000 units.
A company spokesperson told PTI that it is being expected that the remaining 4,000 units will be delivered within this month. The company has already begun its second shift of production at its plant in Maraimalai Nagar near Chennai to meet the domestic demand. Including the second shift, the total capacity of this plant has increased to 1.40 lakh units per annum. Earlier it was one lakh units.
In March, Ford had also launched Ford Figo to compete with the likes of Maruti Swift, Hyundai i20, Polo and Volkswagen can be met. Michael Boneham, Ford India President and Managing Director, said that it has been a remarkable rise for Ford to reach the 25,000 sales booking milestone in close to 100 days.
The company has also announced that it will recruit 1,000 employees at the facility by the end of this year. The reason being the additional shift operation. The company has also got the plans to export 2,500 units of 1.6 litre diesel engines to Thailand, chiefly for the mid-sized sedan Fiesta.
