Ford India elated over Gujarat sales

Ford Motors India has been around for quite sometime and is now enjoying its due success in the domestic auto market . The company tasted success in India after the launch of its hatchback Ford Figo last year.

As per the US based auto company, Gujarat is the fastest growing auto market for the company. In 2010, the auto giant accounted to grow by 300 per cent in the state, when its average sales went up by 184 per cent in India. Anurag Mehrotra, Vice President- Marketing, Ford India, stated that almost 28 per cent of the company's net sales comes from Gujarat and the auto company is keen on growing more in the state. While, Mr Mehrotra, refused to share the exact number of cars sold in Gujarat. Ford India's Ahmedabad dealership sold 150 Ford Figo. The auto giant rolled out 10,000 cars in January 2011, out which 8,600 cars were Ford Figo. Ford in Gujarat owns 8 dealerships and 10 service points and also wishes to expand its wing in the vibrant state.

Mr Mehrotra said that the Indian auto market increased leaps and bounds, out of which the passenger car segment grew by 31 per cent. Ford registered a growth of 184 per cent in this fiscal year by rolling out 84,000 cars in 2010 compared to 30,000 cars in 2009.

The auto giant is also gearing up to launch Ford Fiesta, it will help them in gaining a better position in the sedan segment. It is expected to enter in India soon, with this sedan launch it will mark as the commencement of launching new model in every 12 to 18 months.
