Ford India, facing component shortage for its third shift

Ford India is facing suppky constraints in component which is proving to be a hindrance in starting the third shift in its Chennai manufacturing unit to develop more cars, mainly the hatchback Ford Figo. It was reported by the company's top senior executive. Micheal Boneham, President and Managing Director for Ford India, said that, the US auto company is worried about the shortage in the parts for manufacturing its car. For the auto giants starting the third shift is a challenge but the makers are keen to begin the production in the Maraimalai Nagar facility which is near by Chennai manufacturing unit. When the second shift commenced in July, the auto giants currently produces 80,000 car every year.

Ford Figo, the hatchback from the US auto giant rightly captured the small car market with its technological prowess and advanced features with competitive pricing has already sold 58,000 units of Ford Figo since its entry in Indian auto sector in March 2010. The hatchback has set a new record by selling these many cars under one car model in India. Currently, for Ford Figo the consumers has to wait for two week due to heavy order backlog. Mr Boneham said that the long wait for the hatchback is because of the high demand, but the auto markers are continuously working to cut across the delivery time for Ford Figo. He said that, the new hatchback has received an overwhelming response from the Indian as well as South African auto market. When quizzed about the coming years sales target, he said that, the Indian auto sector will be very promising for the auto giant. The auto giant plans to add new car models in its portfolio in the coming five to six years. Mr Boneham throwing light on the auto giants future plans, said that, the company will introduce eight new car models in the coming five years. He added that Ford Figo will be the company's important product as it is in high demand in India and and global auto market. He further said that the company plans to ship Ford Figo in 48 auto markets and will export 7,000 cars by the end of 2010. Ford Figo is being exported to Nepal from October, 2010.
