Ford India in talks over its second manufacturing plant in Gujarat

Ford India, the US auto makers is in talks with Gujarat government for establishing a new manufacturing plant in the state. As per the sources from state government, executives from Ford India will meet the Gujarat Government officials by next week and will talk about the land for new facility. The American auto giant is planning to utilize the upsurge in the domestic auto sector by adding eight new vehicles in its portfolio by 2015.

As per a Government official close to the deal, said that, the government has invited Ford executives for discussion in Hyderabad on 3rd December in its roadshow. The government is speculated to discuss over Ford India's future prospect on setting up a manufacturing unit in Gujarat.

Michael Boneham, the President and Managing Director of Ford India, refused to comment anything on the issue. He said that, as per the plans, company wishes to come with eight new models by 2015 in the Indian auto market.

Gradually, company will increase the manufacturing capacity and for that, it has already started probing for distinctive options. He later said that, it would be early to speak about it. The locations mentioned are still in consideration, and the decision will be announced after the company's discussion.

Ford in expanding its horizons in the domestic auto market, in August the company declared that it will add eight new vehicles in its portfolio in the coming five years time. The US auto maker is looking forward to utilize the growth in the Indian auto sector which sells more than 15 lacs cars every year. The company wants to introduce new cars from the company's existing portfolio from the global auto market and includes Asia Pacific and African markets.

Recently ford India increased the capacity of its Chennai manufacturing unit to two lacs per year with a huge investment of USD 500 million. The company also owns an engine production facility which can manufacture almost 2.5 lacs units every year. In the last decade, Ford India has already invested more than USD 1 billion in domestic auto sector.

In India, Ford, launched its hatchback Ford Figo which is one of the best output from its stable. Apart from its successful hatchback model in the domestic auto market, the US Motors has three more vehicles they are, premium SUV Ford Endeavour, savvy sedans Ford Fiesta and Ford New Ikon.
