Ford India Pvt. Ltd is seriously thinking over to bring a new compact car in India by early next year. This was confirmed by company's Executive Director, Ford India, Nigel E. Wark. He told that the company would roll out the compact car. However, the sub-segments in the small car category will differentiate. He informed that small cars markets are the largest in India and China. The company will focus on this area. Especially, in India where the small cars volume accounts for nearly two-third of the total.
In the year 2008, Ford India had announced investments to the tune of $500 million in the country. These investments will be towards development of expanding its engine and vehicle production capacity. Wark said that the company were looking at rising the share of exports (from India) once the capacity is expanded. Apart from that they would export the small car in the region, besides petrol and diesel engines.
