Ford India plans its second plant in Gujarat

Ford India, to come with the second manufacturing unit, is expected to be in Gujarat. It has been reported that, the US car brand is in talks with Gujarat government for the land. The expansion of the Ford Motors in India, is the result of the upsurge the Indian auto market and researches claiming it to be one of the biggest markets in the auto sector in the coming times. Ford Motors by 2015, plans to launch eight new car models in India.

For Ford India, a land near Sanand in Gujarat has been proposed by the government officials. Sanand is the same land location where the Indian auto maker Tata Motors small wonder Tata Nano is manufactured.

Ford India, has regained its position in the domestic auto market with Ford Figo, the hatchback and to further take the advantage of the growth in its favour, the US car brand wish to bring up new cars. At present, the company rolls out with sedan Ford Fiesta, Ford New Ikon, SUV Ford Endeavour and with its best seller Ford Figo the hatchback. These cars are manufactured in the Chennai facility with a capacity to produce as many as 2 lacs cars annually.

If the reports are to be believed, Ford India's financial establishments promoters / officials were seen visiting the Gujarat government's top officials. It is rumoured that, the talks with the government is going on and is at its nascent stage.

Gujarat is expected to be a new manufacturing hub as after General Motors and Tata Motors, the US auto maker Ford is expected to come with a new plant.

As per the source close to the talks between the government and Ford, the US car maker is speculated to invest huge capital. The decision on setting up the manufacturing facility is expected to be out in two to three months. A source from Ford revealed that, Ford is expected to come with eight new cars by 2015. When asked about the manufacturing plant, they refuse to comment.


A source close to the company mentioned that, Ford wishes to move away from Chennai as there are increasing number of labour union issues. He also said that, by setting up a plant in North India, it will add location advantage. As manufacturing plant in West will be benefiting the company to capture the domestic market quickly and more efficiently.
