Ford India to launch more hatchbacks in the near future

The Indian auto market is buzzing with the small car launches everywhere. The auto makers are mainly concentrating on small car production to overcome the slowdown in the market as these are in high demand at the moment. Ford India which has been very successful with the launch of its small car, Ford Figo, has now launched its other sedan car , the Global Ford Fiesta on Thursday, 14th of this month.

Mr Michael Boneham, the President and MD of Ford India has said that Ford Fiesta is the first of the eight cars that are expected to be launched by 2015. Due to the huge demand in the hatchback segment of the auto market, they have decided on such massive production. He has also asserted that Indian car market is responsible for 70% of total car sales and there is a severe competition with around 20 models from 11 different manufacturers currently ruling the Indian auto market.

The Ford Fiesta that was launched on last Thursday comes in both petrol and diesel variants. The price of the petrol-driven Ford Fiesta ranges between Rs 8.31 lakhs to Rs 9.51 lakhs and the Ford Fiesta with the diesel engine ranges between Rs 9.36 to Rs 10.52 lakhs. The Ford Fiesta is available to the public in four variants and with seven colour options.

As for the specifications, the Ford Fiesta is equipped with 1.5 litre petrol as well as diesel engine. This engine has been manufactured at Ford India’s Chennai Plant which is capable of manufacturing up to two lakh units per annum. The Ford Fiesta is deployed with Bluetooth voice device for its audio system, cruise control, anti-lock brake system and front airbags among its other essential features. It provides a promising mileage of 17 km/litre for the petrol variant and 23.5 km/litre in case of the diesel variant of Ford Fiesta.

Ford India is currently undergoing the supply crisis of its diesel cars as the demand for the diesel-driven cars have increased drastically due to the petrol price hike in the last few months and they intend to ramp up the production of the diesel cars in the coming months. Mr Boneham has expressed that the gap between the petrol and the diesel price has reached Rs 20 and is likely to widen even further. He also says that the high demand of the diesel cars have hit the monthly sales of Ford Figo. Ford India is all towards increasing the production of their diesel cars and engaged currently with manufacturing their forthcoming new cars to be launched in the next few years.
