The American auto major Ford Motors couldn’t create a sensation in the Indian car market until it rolled out the much lauded hatchback Ford Figo. This car was like the fate-twister for Ford India when it was launched two years ago. Within these two years, many car makers have treated the market with the facelifts or updated versions of their favoured cars like Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Tata Indica and Renault Pulse. The updated versions keep the customers interested in the products and therefore this American giant is also planning on bringing in the revamped version of its best-selling car – Ford Figo. It will be a mid-life makeover of the car, which will hit the showrooms around Oct 2012 in order to maintain the freshness of the car in the whole.
Caught in lens in Chennai, the testing mule of the revamped Ford Figo hatchback was flaunting a yellow paint job with freshly designed tail lamps plus the black tape masking. However, the details of the changes rendered to the car have not been revealed but some other changes are expected to be seen on designing of the headlights and the front bumper. In order to compete with the new entrants of the hatchback segment, the new Ford Figo is expected to be enriched with more equipments and features. The aggressive pricing strategy of Figo, which is known to be the backbone of its success in the economy conscious Indian car market is anticipated to be maintained by Ford India.
The current version of the Figo hatchback is housed with the 1.4-liter TDCI engine which is pretty cost efficient. However, the Ford Figo facelift would not be bestowed with the 1.5-liter TDCCi diesel engine which powers the Ford Fiesta sedan as this powertrain is expected to do duty in the next generation model of the Figo hatchback. In near future, Ford Motors could also think of affixing this car with the 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine so that the sales of the petrol variant of the Figo are revived and in order to reduce the cost the non-turbocharged version of the EcoBoost engine can be used.
