Ford mulls manufacturing Fox engine for India

Ford, the leading auto manufacturing company is planning to launch 8 different variants in the Indian auto market including the new Ford Fiesta by 2015. According to official sources of company, Ford has made huge investment for setting up its engine manufacturing plant at the Maraimalaingar complex where various types of engines will be manufactured under one roof.

At present Ford is mainly concentrating on EcoBoost engine for India. For this intensive research and discussions had been made by the Ford officials, giving priority to Ecoboost engines as their future product.

Sources close to development at Ford said that two years back the situation was different both the petrol and diesel cars were sold equally in the market. It is difficult to forecast anything at this stage as it is too early to totally ignore the importance of petrol engines.

In the international market Ford is working hard on Ecoboost engines. Ecoboost engines are mainly the petrol based engines upgraded with turbocharging, direct injection and variable valve timing technologies. There are chances that a specific engine dubbed “Fox” may be produced in India. It is said that 1.0-liter 3-cylinder Fox engine produces up to 120PS of power and is able to give either equally or better fuel economy as compared to 1.0 litre engine.
