To celebrate the Mustang's '50th Anniversary' Ford reincarnated an icon again. The nameplate Mustang which is running from 50 years and still strong (not many nameplates runs for half a century). Ford is prepping up for the Mustang launch in US in the second half of this year; and for the first time Mustang will be produced for the right-hand drive markets including India (riches are craving for it for long). Raj Nair, Ford's Global Chief, Product Development, said: "We have a lot of fans of the Mustang in India". Rivals like Mercedes, Porsche, BMW and Audi amongst others have already been selling cars in India. Ask anyone, the person might not be knowing any other competitor car but would know Mustang - 'Mustang' a name needs no introduction - will definitely earn fortunes for Ford India in luxury and exquisite car space. The brand and the nameplate Mustang seems to be having a soul - silver screen star, featured in countless movies, including the recent hit – Need For Speed, the movie.
Speaking about the design, Ford tried to keep the new vehicle as elegant as possible retaining the muscularity and identity of the legend -1965 Mustang pony car. The sportsback coupe design, three vertical taillights, galloping horse logo and bow down front facade remind of the original 60-70's Mustang.
Recently, Ford introduced a video of the aerodynamic capabilities of the sports car. The American manufacturer tried to keep the drag minimum to get the best possible fuel efficiency. To reduce the drag, the company introduced "Wheel Aero Curtains" for the first time in its lineup. The air coming from the front is channeled through the gaps and spaces in the wheels and tyres, thus escaping out of the car profile.
Interiors are also retro-styled following the legacy of the cult-classic pony car and indeed, features all the modern day equipments.
The drop-top Mustang convertible is also crafted to provide the adrenaline pumping top-less fun. Retaining all the driving dynamics of the coupe, convertible provides the same fun but without a roof! The roof has layers of sound insulators to give the quietest cabin. The company says the soft top retracts twice as fast compared to the current plus it looks premium too (definitely it does).
About the engine, voilà Mustang gets Ecoboost engine – the 2.3 liter EcoBoost four cylinder engine gathers power in excess of 305bhp and maximum torque of 406Nm, the range started 3.7 litre V6 produce 300bhp and torque of 365Nm. The top of the line sporty Mustang GT gets a whooping 5.0 liter 420bhp V8 mustering an exhilarating 528Nm of peak torque. Kudos to Ford!
