Car makers across the globe are showering the auto markets with SUVs, compact SUVs, Crossovers and MUVs. General Motors is also jumping on this bandwagon which is expected to drive sales in good volumes in the emerging auto markets especially India. The President of General Motors India, Mr. Lowell Paddock hinted that the company might release a compact SUV in India in near future. Information on this compact SUV from GM has hit the web. Word is, this compact SUV might outpace the upcoming Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster SUV. This car could be built on the Chevrolet Sonic platform and owing to its compact design would be able to accommodate only 5 passengers.

This new car could be launched with both diesel and petrol variants. Some time back, another SUV Opel Mokka, from the General Motors stable was planned for launch. Earlier when GM India announced this compact SUV, Opel Mokka was confused to be the one but the recently surfaced pictures suggest that the aforementioned compact SUV is a brand new model. The range of upcoming and existing compact SUVs is creating a revolution in the Indian car market. A compact SUV is the first and best available option when someone plans for an upgrade from hatchback. The compact SUVs are a complete package as they are perfect for the unkept Indian roads and they also add to the status of the owner with their snobbish looks and aura.

The newer compact SUVs are small on the footprint and big on the fuel economy with sparing petrol and diesel engines which makes them more charismatic and preferable over the ‘gas guzzling’ larger SUVs. Along with General Motors compact SUV the forthcoming additions to the utility portfolio of the Indian car market include Renault Duster which is being launched by Diwali this year and then there is Ford EcoSport SUV joining the stands somewhere in late 2012 or early 2013. Maruti Suzuki India will also be rolling out its XA-Alpha SUV in 2013. Mahindra is mulling over building a sub-4 meter SUV by next one or two years which could enjoy the benefits of a small car.
