General Motors to launch new mini car based on Beat concept, by the end of this year, The new mini car based on Beat concept was showcased at the New York Auto Show two years ago. The new mini car will sport a small diesel and petrol engine, and be the third-small car by General Motors, after Chevrolet Spark and Chevrolet Aveo U-VA.
The new mini car would be launch in a premium hatchback segment and will take on the likes of Skoda Fabia and Honda Jazz. GM plans to invest Rs. 200-250 crore for the project of this new model.
General Motors India president and Managing Director, Karl Slym said, The new mini car launch from our Talegaon plant near Pune. With this new plant, our capacity will exceed domestic needs for the first time. India would be the export hub for the new mini car.
The new mini car based on Beat concept, has a funky and futuristic design, and after the launch new mini car will be positioned above the Chevrolet Spark. It might overlap with Chevrolet Aveo U-VA but it will not cater the same customers as the new mini car will be different from the design point of view.
The small car market comprises more than 80% of country's total car sales, so General Motors looking to tap this market by offering multiple models under its Chevrolet badge. The new mini car will compete with other models in the premium hatchback segment, including the just launched Hyundai i20 and upcoming Honda Jazz.
