GM China plans to enter Indian auto market

General Motors China and its local partner in China, Shanghai Automotive Industries Corp said that they will make and sell “low priced vehicles” in India.According to the President and Managing Director of the GM China Group Kevin E. Wale the joint venture will arrive with 'low-priced vehicles' in the Indian market, though comprehensive report will be disclosed by GM's Indian joint ventures. If rumors are to be believed then the New Sail and freshly launched Shanghai GM Wuling Baojun are among the car models which are going to enter in the Indian market.
Right now General Motors India (2009), has two installation namely in Halol, Gujarat and Talegaon, Maharashtra. And even after having a production capacity of 225,000 cars (Halol) and 160,000 engines (Talegaon), GM is still at number fifth to Maruti in annual sales report. It is believed that GM India is all set for launching three commercial and two passenger vehicles in India next year.
With the GM and Shanghai Automotive entering Indian market, it is believed that car sales figures in India will reach up to 3.2 million in year 2015. Furthermore SAIC chairman Hu Maoyuan said that, with complete control on individual assets and joint ventures, GM and SAIC are capable of releasing cars in India and other promising regions of Global Market.
Currently GM’s two factories in India are rolling out 225,000 cars a year which is more than it sells in domestic market. And with the investment of $1 billion, right now the company is selling six car models under the Chevrolet brand.
