In tandem with other car manufacturers General Motors India has announced the price hike on their models up to 2% from January 2012. The exception will be on their flagship model Chevrolet Beat diesel, where Rs 15,000 hike will be implemented straight away. P Balendran of General Motors India stated that Chevrolet Beat was introduced in India at an introductory offer. He further explained that due to the sharp fall in rupee, this step has been taken. Higher input costs of the production materials are the main reason behind the price hike. Apparently, the auto majors find it difficult to bear the higher costs in a long run.

This has made them pass on their losses to the consumers. Moreover, the depreciation of the rupee is another reason which makes it inevitable to implement a price hike. Rest of the Chevrolet models including its best-selling models Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Optra and Chevrolet Captiva price will be increased from the next month onwards. The fluctuations in the rupee exchange value and the inflation has got almost all the car manufacturers to revise their respective car model prices. Country’s leading car manufacturer Maruti India is also on the same lines despite enforcing a recent hike on their select diesel car line-up in October. Toyota India has increased its model price thrice during the present year. The auto major is ready to implement another hike beginning January 1st.

On the other hand, General Motors is gearing up for the upcoming 2012 Auto Expo like any other car manufacturer. A Chevrolet Captiva facelift will be introduced by the auto major with minor changes in the interiors and the exteriors of the SUV. The actual makeover is in the engine department where the 2.0 L diesel engine will be replaced by a 2.2 L CRDe to produce an improved power output of 184 Bhp. Going forward, the auto major will have the new Chevrolet Captiva assembled in India as opposed to its CBU import.
