With increasing number of low-budget cars and positive shift in purchasing capacity of Indians today, we observe rise in the vehicle population which leads to the problem of old and unusable vehicles. The out-of-date vehicles are being sold as scrap and the government is taking necessary steps to make use of the unused vehicles by introducing around ten modern recycling centres by 2014, where the useful parts of the vehicles will be reused and the waste will be taken care of. A senior official from the Ministry of heavy vehicles is reported to have said that despite the marked growth in the auto industry, there has been no mechanism in India to take care of the redundant material unlike the developed countries.
