The new Tata Harrier not only gets some functional feature advantages over the MG Hector, but it also has some feel-good touches inside and out
When the Tata Harrier was introduced in the market in 2019, its main competitor came in the form of the MG Hector. While the MG SUV was always a bit more feature-loaded (and got even more tech with a refresh early this year), Tata has stepped up its features game with the recent Harrier facelift. In fact, the Tata SUV has now gone a step further and even has some unique equipment over the Hector. Let’s look at the list in detail:
Dual-zone AC
-
One of the new features being provided on the Harrier for the first time is dual-zone climate control.
-
Tata is offering this comfort and convenience feature on the higher-spec Fearless variants of the SUV.
-
The Harrier Fearless trim starts at Rs 22.99 lakh.

7 Airbags
- The Harrier facelift also debuted with 7 airbags, also a first for a Tata.
- Tata’s midsize SUV now comes with a driver-side knee airbag, while featuring 6 airbags as standard (also an advantage over the MG Hector).
- Only the fully equipped Fearless+ variants of the SUV, whose prices start from Rs 24.49 lakh, get this safety feature.

10-speaker Music System
-
With the facelift, Tata even bumped up the number of speakers on the Harrier, taking the tally to 10. The SUV now gets 5 speakers, 4 tweeters and 1 subwoofer for its JBL sound system, which is available only on the Fearless+ variants.
-
The MG SUV, on the other hand, has an 8-speaker Infinity music system.
A Bigger Driver’s Display
-
While the Harrier did get a 7-inch digital driver’s display with the Red Dark edition earlier in 2023, Tata has taken it up a notch by introducing an even bigger 10.25-inch digital cluster.
-
It also shows map navigation for the entire screen, a convenience feature usually observed on luxury cars.
-
Tata has equipped the new Harrier with the bigger instrument cluster from the 1-above-base Pure trim, which starts at Rs 16.99 lakh.

Memory Function For Driver’s Seat
-
Both the Tata and MG SUVs mentioned here get a 6-way powered driver seat. That said, it’s the Harrier that has an edge as the carmaker has provided it with a memory function for the driver seat, which can save up to 3 of your preferred driving positions.
-
It’s available from the Fearless trim onwards.

Diesel-auto Option
-
One of the major advantages that the Harrier has had over the Hector for years, is its diesel-automatic combination (6-speed unit), which the latter misses.
- This is despite both SUVs offering the same 2-litre diesel unit making 170PS and 350Nm.
-
Tata has provided the SUV with this combination from the mid-spec Pure+ variant onwards.
-
The Harrier’s automatic variants are priced from Rs 19.99 lakh.

Feel-good Features
While the above mentioned features are the most useful and functional advantages that the Harrier has over its MG counterpart, here are a few more feel-good advantages. These include a gesture-controlled tailgate, multi-colour ambient lighting, welcome and goodbye animation function for the LED DRLs, and a Dark edition sporting larger 19-inch alloy wheels.
Overall, the 2023 Tata Harrier is priced from Rs 15.49 lakh to Rs 27.34 lakh. Like the MG Hector, it comes with premium features like a large touchscreen, ADAS, leatherette upholstery and of course, immense road presence. Would you pick the Harrier over the Hector for the above mentioned features, at a price premium? Let us know in the comments.
