Honda 1.6-litre Turbocharged Civic for the WTCC

Honda has developed the all-new 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine with direct injection technology for the Civic that would be competing in the FIA World Touring Car Championship. The engine is codenamed HR412E. Honda is said to field one Civic at WTCC-2012 which will be driven by Tiago Monteiro who is an ex-Formula One driver.
Commenting on the engine, Daisuke Horiuchi, WTCC Development Project Leader at Honda R&D, said that innovations have led to the revolutionary engine and they will lead to benefits which will go beyond the race track. He added that such innovations are sure to help increase the efficiency of the cars on the road. There were no comments on whether Honda is planning for production of petrol turbocharged engines.
This 1.6-litre engine has been delivered to the racing team of Honda at the Milan at the Honda Racing Team JAS workshop. It is here that the development of the Civic WTCC model is happening.
