Just one more day, and we will have Japanese auto major Honda's first ever diesel vehicle, the Amaze in India. Announcement for the launch came on April 1, when the company updated its official website with the details on the launch and revolutionary 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine that Amaze will house under the hood. The company started the official bookings on the same day, April 1; however, over 2550 units of the vehicle were already booked in March 2013, despite having almost no official details about the car, indicating the excitement the Amaze has created all over.
Housing the all new 1.5-lire i-DTEC diesel engine, the Amaze will belt out the maximum power output of 98.6bhp (about 25bhp more than Swift Dzire), which makes it the most powerful engine in its league. Moreover, the Amaze diesel promises to return the mileage of around 25.8kmpl, proving it be the most fuel efficient car in India. When it comes to the mileage, the Amaze yet again beats the Swift Dzire; as against the diesel version of Swift Dzire's 23.4kmpl, the Amaze returns the best-in-class fuel economy of 25.8kmpl.
Honda Amaze compact sedan is basically the extended version of the company's flagship hatchback Brio, so both the cars share most parts including the platform and features, however Amaze will have more exciting features and of course an additional boot. Along with the highly efficient 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel engine, the Amaze will also be offered in the petrol version, which will carry the similar 1.2-litre i-VTEC motor used in the Brio. The 1.2-litre i-VTEC too is one of the most fuel efficient and powerful petrol engines today we have in the hatchback segment, the petrol variant is likely to return 18kmpl of mileage.
Honda Amaze is likely to come up with 2 years maintenance package, extended warranty scheme and road side assitance program, to ensure that the maintenance of the car is not a problem. The car will have a ground clearance of around 165mm, 4.6 metre turning radius, 8-spoke 14 inches alloy wheels, 175/65 R14 tyres, manual air-conditioning, Dual airbags, ABS & EBD, Driver's seat height adjustment, Rear demister, Blinkers integrated ORVMs, Center armrest with cup-holders in Rear seat, 400-litre boot, Fabric seats with integrated head-rests, front chrome grill and Rear chrome garnish, proving the Amaze to be a feature rich car, however most of the aforementioned features will be offered with the top-end variants only.
The interiors of the Honda Amaze will remind you of the Brio, it has the similar dashboard, but Amaze has more to offer to its customers. The vehicle is also likely to come in an automatic variant, sporting the similar five-speed transmission used by the Brio AT. The Amaze is likely to be made available in a total six colour options including Black, Silver, White, Azure Grey, Carnelian red peal and Blue.
The above mentioned features prove the Amaze to be a really good product, so, it is the pricing which has to play a major role. However, we are expecting the pricing of the Honda Amaze to be on Par with its closest rival, Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.
We will be covering the Honda Amaze launch event live, so, stay tuned to CarDekho for all the updates about the pricing, features and everything else. Cheers!
