Honda City to get a slight facelift

Honda India is facing many challenges making its survival difficult, in order to cope up with this problem Honda plans to renovate its Honda City Sedan. The company few days back reduced the price of its flagship sedan car by upto 66,000 to revive its turnover, lost volumes and sinking fortune in world's fastest growing auto market. The upgraded version of the sedan car is expected to have first-rate optional features such as new multimedia and infotainment additions such as iPod and Bluetooth connectivity, elegant sunroof and top-notch colour combination.

The new Honda City is expected to have some internal and external cosmetic changes that may include new colours and design stimulus like new tail lamps that could use LEDs and internal changes comprising of modifications with instrumental panel, a new CD player system or new interior trim . In the past 13 years of existence of Honda India, Honda City occupied the largest sold volumes and has dominated the Indian Sedan market. However, in recent months, neophytes such as the new Hyundai Verna Fluidic and Volkswagen Vento have pushed this decade-old segment leader to a fourth spot.

Sales Statistics of April-May show Honda City sales dropped about 43% to 3,370 cars in India. To restore its earlier position in sedan segment, last week, Honda Siel Cars India decided to cut Honda City prices by up to Rs 66,000 along with offering more luxury and benevolent features and for the same a team of R&D technicians is working at its Greater Noida plant. The elevated version of Honda City is expected to roar on Indian roads by the coming festive season. New Honda City features also include a new set of front and rear bumper, modified grille and new metal alloys. The New Honda City will be powered by the same 1.5-litre iVTEC engine and transmission of the current models. Honda India few days back also announced the debut of the next generation Honda City in 2013, which is expected to incorporate the diesel engine to give straight competition to Maruti SX4, Volkswagen Vento and Hyundai Verna.

The upgradations are expected to help Honda City to sustain the tough competition expected to be posed by the entrant of Ford Fiesta and Skoda Rapid. A Honda India spokeswoman denied the ongoing development activities and said that they are focused only to the launch of Honda Brio (compact car), component makers and suppliers of Honda India confirmed the revival activities. The new Honda City price is yet not known. After the launch of refreshed Honda City the company is planning to kick start with next generation Honda Civic.
