Honda has given its confirmation over the news of the launch of the long anticipated small capacity diesel engine in the Geneva Auto exhibition to be held in March. The all new turbo diesel engine having a capacity of 1.6 litres will be first introduced in the new Honda Civic diesel and then in the later part of the year it will also be included in the Indian Civic saloon. The Honda diesel engine will be the first amongst its new competitors to be launched under the "Earth Dreams" technology tag line of Honda. This 1,596 cc engine is expected to generate a power of 120PS at 4000 rpm and the highest torque of 300Nm at 2000 rpm. The biggest advantage that the engine holds over its competitors is its light weight which is lighter than even its 1.6 litre petrol engine, according to Honda.

The amount of fuel that will be consumed has still not been revealed by Honda, but they claim that the carbon-di-oxide emissions will not be more than 100g/km. It was rumored the previous week that Honda has plans to launch the diesel model of the Brio in India in the later part of 2012. After equipped Honda Civic with diesel motor, they can also plan to bring it in hatchback and sedan cars like and Honda Jazz and Honda City. There are strong chances that under the company's "Earth's Dreams" banner, the next engine that could be launched is the 1.2lt diesel engine, which would be used in the hatchbacks Brio and Jazz. That said it also won’t be a surprise if Honda launches the 1.2 litre diesel engine ahead of the introduction of the 1.6 litre diesel power train in the country.
