Japanese carmaker Honda has recently phased out the 8th generation Accord, however, the company is still in a mood to re-launch this luxurious sedan in an all-new avatar. This is surely great news for the Accord lovers in India, however Honda is yet to finalise the exact launch date and its drivetrain.
At the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, Honda displayed the new Accord hybrid, which was speculated to make its way to the Indian car market. Speaking on the launch of new Accord, Jnaneshwar Sen, Sr. Vice President Marketing and Sales, Honda Cars India said, “We were the first carmaker who introduced the hybrid car in the form of Civic hybrid, however, the high import duties make it costlier. We recently phased out the 8th generation Accord and are planning to introduce the new generation Accord in India. However, the exact launch time and its drivetrain are yet to be finalised”.
With this statement, it is now clear that Accord will surely come to India in near future, and it is now open for all the three powertrains- petrol, diesel and hybrid.
The Honda Accord Hybrid gets the 2.0-litre petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 141PS and 165Nm of top torque. When combined to an electric motor, the hybrid machine delivers a top power of 196bhp and 306Nm of top torque. This drivetrain will also allow its user to toggle between petrol or electric, or one can opt for hybrid mode as well.
