The Honda Jazz has been absent from the premium hatchback segment for some time, awaiting its BS6 engine update and a mid-life update. We’ve now got our first official look at the 2020 Jazz which features updated cosmetics along with a sunroof. Honda has opened bookings for the Jazz at its dealerships for Rs 21,000 while the online booking amount is Rs 5,000.
The updated India-spec Jazz is the global mild-life facelifted model which was introduced a couple of years back. It now has a sportier-looking front bumper with hexagonal design elements for housing the LED fog lamps. The Jazz also gets new LED headlamps flanking the revised grille design. The rear profile remains largely as is and continues to feature updated LED tail lamps, which were introduced last year.
In terms of the interior, the Jazz’s cabin seems the same with no visible changes to the dashboard layout or the dual-tone interior. The 2020 Jazz sees the addition of a segment-first sunroof, possibly encouraged by the popularity of the Honda WR-V. Its feature list will also include comforts such as cruise control, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, auto AC, and push-button start-stop.
The BS6 Honda Jazz will only be offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine with the choice of manual and CVT automatic transmission options. In the Amaze, the same engine is tuned to produce 90PS and 110Nm. The CVT also gets paddle shifters. Honda has decided to discontinue the less popular 1.5-litre diesel (100PS/ 200Nm) from the Jazz with this update. The carmaker has stated that “CVT variants accounted for almost 70 percent of total Jazz sales in the market last year”.
Honda is expected to launch the facelifted Jazz soon with prices ranging between Rs 7.5 lakh and Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). It will resume its rivalry with the likes of the Hyundai Elite i20, Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Tata Altroz, Volkswagen Polo and Toyota Glanza.
