Honda, the Japanese automaker is trying everything to promote its all-new Mobilio MPV. Showcased at the 2013 Indonesia Motor Show, the Mobilio MPV has been put on display to get the customer feedback. The Brio based MPV will go for the production in early 2014 at the company's production facility in West Java, Indonesia. The vehicle will also make its way to the Indian car market by the next year, and the company might also showcase the MPV at the upcoming 2014 Indian Auto Expo.
The idea behind the customer preview of Mobilio MPV is to take feedback from the prospective customers. Honda's main focus behind such a step is to get closer to its probable buyers, especially in developing car markets like India and Indonesia. The Mobilio MPV is specifically formulated for the emerging nations, and the demand for affordable MPVs are high in such markets. For Indonesian buyers, the Honda Mobilio will probably be available in three different variants - S, E and E CVT. The vehicle which was presented for customer previews is the top of the line, E variant.
The Honda Mobilio MPV is based on the company's most successful entry level hatchback, Brio, which provided its platform to the Amaze compact sedan as well. In Indonesia, the vehicle will be made available in only petrol version- a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine that also does duty to the Honda City. The highly reliable engine is capable of developing 117bhp and 146Nm of top torque. It will be available in both manual and automatic versions.
For the Indian car market, the Mobilio MPV will be available with both petrol and diesel engines. The diesel version of the MPV will get the 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine that also powers the Amaze diesel compact sedan. The engine is capable of developing 98bhp of top power.
Launch by early 2014 in Indonesia, the vehicle will be priced in the range of 150 to 180 million Indonesian Rupiah, which is around Rs. 8.5 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh. However, in India the vehicle is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 6.5 lakh to 9 lakh, and will compete against the likes of Chevrolet Enjoy, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Nissan Evalia and others.
